Curriculum
“The school has designed a highly effective and ambitious curriculum. Learning goals in children’s education, health and care (EHC) plans and ‘personalised learning plans’ are seamlessly interwoven into all aspects of the curriculum. Staff use the curriculum to identify the knowledge and skills that children need to know. Using the school’s assessment systems with expertise, they identify the specific next steps in children’s learning. Staff then use this information, alongside their knowledge of how to engage individual children in their learning, to help children learn the intended curriculum. They are skilled in doing so highly effectively. This ensures that children learn exceptionally well."

Preparing children for the world around them is a top priority. Children benefit from an impressive range of activities to promote their wider personal development. They experience activities such as swimming, outdoor learning and horse riding. The school ensures that children are involved in and regularly visit the local community.

Our curriculum at Greenhall is highly personalised, ambitious and progressive, building on children's existing knowledge and skills. There is a large focus on the Prime areas as these link to children's needs. Every child is unique, therefore our curriculum reflects this. We do not make assumptions about the kind of knowledge or skills that children may bring with them from home (Best Start in Life Part 1 research). We spend the first 6 weeks getting to know the children and completing a baseline assessment in order to plan for their next steps.
Our curriculum incorporates children’s interests but is not solely based on these, for we recognise that some children will only choose activities / games that they already know which could limit their development. Thus, our curriculum is topic-based with the topic being the vehicle for delivering new concepts and teaching new skills or applying existing ones into different situations.
Our team provide a nurturing and safe, yet challenging learning environment. Resources are carefully chosen to meet the needs of our children. We provide a communication-rich environment through our total communication approach.
